Usage
Regular -ar verb. Commonly used with direct objects (abandonar algo/alguém). The reflexive form "abandonar-se" means "to give oneself over to" or "to indulge in" (e.g., "abandonar-se ao desespero" = to give oneself over to despair). Not to be confused with "deixar," which is more neutral and doesn't carry the same connotation of neglect or desertion.
