Usage

Assumir is one of the most common verbs in Brazilian Portuguese. It frequently appears in formal contexts (business, politics) when taking on roles or responsibilities. In everyday speech, it's also used to mean "to suppose" or "to guess." The reflexive form "se assumir" means "to come out" (especially in LGBTQ+ contexts) or "to embrace one's identity."
