Usage

Ficar is one of the most frequently used verbs in Brazilian Portuguese. It has broader meaning than English "to stay" and functions as both a stative and resultative verb. In colloquial speech, ficar can mean "to kiss/make out" (ficar com alguém). Note the distinction: "ficar em" (stay in/at a place) vs. "ficar com" (end up with/keep something).
