Usage

Very informal and colloquial, especially common in spoken Brazilian Portuguese. The "to chat" meaning is more frequent than the "to eat" meaning in modern usage. Often used with prepositions: "papear com alguém" (chat with someone) or "papear sobre algo" (chat about something).
